Ivy Thimble is winding down for the holidays.
Just in case you’re still pondering on what to get your quilter friends we have lots of little gadgets, notions,

So much to tell you about all that is new at Ivy Thimble!
We are back from Quilt Market and have begun unpacking all that we brought back
Some of the goodies we couldn’t bring back…they’re arriving DAILY!
We have many new books to share with you…
some using the pre-cut fabrics…some using the large prints…
some making those adorable small quilts that are fun to make after a large project.

We came back with new patterns too!
A set that is really fun is from “Liberty Homestead”…
They’re displayed in a beautiful wooden sewing box…
They are a Civil War themed pattern in a 3x5 spiral bound book…all for $9!

Lots of new bag patterns…
some small and some HUGE bags to put your quilts in to take for show n’ tell to guilds or better yet, use it as a gift bag to place your quilt in when giving it as a gift.
We found a great new way to make those beautiful chenille baby blankets,

What a wonderful, GIVING weekend we had at Ivy Thimble!
Our 2011 Food Drive was OVER THE TOP successful!
We took in OVER 1000 POUNDS of food for our local food cupboards!!!
You all amazed us at how much you brought and how thoughtful the items were from canned goods, tuna fish, cereal, paper products to toothpaste! WOW! That’s all we can say!
As always….you made us PROUD!

For the 2010 Holiday Season Ivy’s Giving Back Event we have decided to work with the Ontario County Literacy Program. We are all excited to be able to help this organization out. Beginning this week we will accept books for children up to the age of 12 or a monetary donation towards the purchase of books. We will accept these donations until Dec.17. Our donation will be given to the Community Reading Partnership that is part of the county’s literacy program. Their program, “Little Red Bookshelf” places books on many ‘red bookshelves’ free for families to select and keep throughout the county.
A few places you might see these ‘red bookshelves – banks, pediatrician’s offices or laundromats. Many places the little ones are with their moms or dads waiting…where having a good book to read would make life a little nicer. In years past you have all been so generous in helping us with the local food cupboards or when we’ve had events for Safe Journey. It is our hope that you once again would like to join in with us helping children learn to read…something so very important in their lives.

Be sure to check our website and calendar daily…I have begun to add NEW classes for 2011. Joanne has a couple of small block of the month programs starting in January – 6months each. We are doing a ‘tea towel’ each month - helping you learn applique with a small project and having something finished right in class! How nice is that! Cindy is working on some monthly jacket classes, a block of the month program with the This & That pattern company and she’s also having a class out of Kim Diehl’s book Simple Traditions. Don’t forget along with Cindy having her non-stop beginner class she also follows up with a Beginner “GRAD” class…ANY of us could take and brush up on our basic quilting skills. Her next class is out of the book, “Six Halves Make a Whole”…GREAT BOOK! Barb is continuing her monthly Breakfast get togethers (YUM!) … check her projects, always something fun. Please remember if there is ever a technique or a pattern/book you’d like us to have a class on let me know…we’d be glad to do it!

Because of Thanksgiving this week we will NOT be having “OPEN SEW” on Friday…BUT if any of you would like to join us on SATURDAY to do something just for YOU….spend the day sewing at Ivy call the shop…we have a few spaces open.

Fall News at Ivy Thimble

Hi Everyone,

Before I update you on the new arrivals at Ivy Thimble I would like to thank ALL that joined in the Central New York Shop in September. We had a RECORD number of participants this year! WAHOO!! You traveled miles to see all of the participating shops and all of us thank you for joining in. Unfortunately I have ‘mud on my face’ and have to ask anyone that picked up one of our Ohio Star block kits to please contact us at the shop. The fabric in the kit is incorrect. Contact us and we will send you the correct amount. I apologize for this…a snafu in the preparation for the hop.

Two weeks ago I was out of town for my youngest daughter’s wedding in New York City. Many of you have been in the shop since and have asked all about it – it was a picture perfect day! All of us couldn’t have asked for a better day…obviously I am biased when I say she was a gorgeous bride! To top the perfect weekend off…Pat, Ivy’s righthand, hosted a sale while I was gone…WOW ladies did you have FUN! She has told me over and over how much fun she had seeing all of you and the excitement in the store was so contagious…when I returned to Ivy she couldn’t stop talking about how much fun she had with everyone! I knew Ivy was in good hands.

Now on to the new arrivals…just yesterday we received over 60 BOLTS OF BATIKS! Each and every one was prettier than the next one we opened. Cindy had the job of unwrapping the bolts and all I heard all day was, ‘oh my’, ‘look at this one’…what can I say except come in soon while the selection is the BEST! At this point we are over 350 bolts of batiks at Ivy…what great jackets some of these will make…and yes of course quilts! While we were just about finished emptying the batik boxes another shipment arrived and that was 15 bolts of FLANNEL! I know many of you have been busy making rag quilts for the holidays or getting ready for the winter that lies ahead stop in now to see what Cindy just finished, a new sample of the rag jacket…stop in, check it out, try it on and pick out your flannel…it’s a great jacket for this time of year.

Nancy Murty’s Blackbird Acres has arrived at Ivy! She did it again…another great fall line…I’m sure many have seen the advertisement in the lastest Fons & Porter magazine…well surprise, surprise…Pat has the sample DONE and kits made…something new and refreshing for fall…

Keep an eye on our ‘new’ calendar of classes. We’re adding classes ‘on the fly’ right now. As you come in looking for something we’re working on getting it on the calendar. Also those of you that need more time to finish up your holiday projects or just work on getting projects done…keep an eye on the calendar…as I find days that the classroom is open I’m adding ‘open sew’ days…be sure to call the shop to reserve a spot on those days…our open sew days fill up FAST!

This weekend Ivy will be vending at the Heart in Hand Quilt Guild’s Quilt Show at the Farmington Methodist Church Friday, 4-8pm and Saturday, 9-4pm. Stop in to see the beautiful quilts and say Hi! Next weekend we will be at the Irondequoit Quilt Club’s show, the Lutheran Church of the Resurrecton on St. Paul Blvd., Friday, 2-8pm and again Saturday 10-4pm. We would love to see you!

Hi Everyone!

Hope you all are having a great summer…the sunny weather has certainly been with us this summer. Hope with the heat and sun you’ve made time to quilt…whether it be for you or you’re getting a headstart on your holiday gifts.

I’d like to bring you up to date on some new arrivals at Ivy….

• We’ve gotten NEW, FUN buttons in! We’ve all had fun making the new bags or jackets that are out there…now we’ve got the buttons to give them just a little more pizzazz! We have a great assortment of colors AND sizes….

• Just in – Thermal Batting along with a great pattern to make one of those great wine bags for a summer picnic or a gift to take when visiting family and friends. It’s great and easy to sew…stop to see the sample we’ve got…you’ll be sure to give it a try!

• I found this great little pattern to make ‘buckets’ out of canvas and clothesline. You purchase the pattern and inside you’ll find 3 great labels to iron on the buckets. These buckets make great storage in a baby’s room, a classroom or better yet, YOUR QUILT ROOM! Come in a look at our sample …you can make all three in a very short time for a great gift.

• Something new at Ivy, “HEAT PRESS BATTING”…what is this? 1-1/2” wide fusible tape…instead of zig-zag stitching your pieces of batting together this is the product to use!

• This past week we received lots of new novelty fabrics – fruits, vegetables and ANT FABRIC – many of you have asked for it…it’s back! A great assortment of new wide backs arrived too…if you’re finishing up a quilt stop in to see what is new for your back.

• Don’t forget our holiday and halloween fabrics are HERE! We’re over-flowing with kits for the holiday season…stop in SOON while the selection is still good!

If you haven’t been in the shop lately…Pat is BACK! BOY have we missed her! She is back with all sorts of energy and we’re loving it! She’s started a new project using the Tumbler Block. Stop in to see her latest sample in Black and White using the tumbler block. It’s really quite stunning. We got so excited with her sample ….NOW she’s doing a sample in 30s AND Christmas fabrics. The samples should be in the shop this week. Guess what? She’s making up kits to go with this great project!! Don’t we love her? We’re at it again….we are hosting our FIFTH Quilting Cusine Excursion this fall!!!

Perhaps many of you have not heard of it because it fills up so quickly,

the bus can only accommodate 25 quilters. We’re taking reservations NOW!

You don’t need to navigate, fill the gas tank or plan your meals.

You and your friends will be pampered and chauffeured via small bus to 3 of the area's most unique quilt shops, Ivy Thimble Quilt Shop, O’Susannah’s Quilt & Gift Shop and Mt Pleasant Quilting Company.

At each destination you will have quality quilt shopping time

A "Surprise Sale" will be announced the day of the Cuisine

Each shop will provide you with nourishment to continue you on your way.

Your day will end with a gift and a candlelight sit down dinner hosted by the talented cooks of Ivy Thimble.
The dates are Friday, October 29th or Saturday, October 30th.

The bus will leave Ivy Thimble Quilt Shop at 9:30 am and return at approximately 5:30 pm.

The cost is $65.00 per person with a $32.50 deposit due by June 1st.

The remaining balance is due August 1st

We are announcing our EIGHTH Annual Quilting Retreat for 2011. We are SO excited!

We will be on our own for our meals Thursday, with meals at the hotel beginning on Friday morning thru Sunday’s brunch. As every other year, we will have our own massage therapist, Mary, for TWO DAYS!

The Marcus Bros Civil War Block of the Month program is almost full…we have spots open for the evening class and we’re ready to open another day class. Along with the Civil War Block of the Month Joanne is also doing another – “Covering America”…a block for each state of the United States! It’s outstanding…last heard she had 48 blocks done and hopes to have the sample in the shop within the week!!!! She has shared her progress with many of us...it’s stunning!! While the Marcus Bros Civil War Block of the Month is a program including fabrics the “Covering America” class allows you to use your STASH! How wonderful is that!

*For those of you that are looking for something else…Joyce is starting her own little class … she wants to do some dabbling in the 30s, she’s getting like our Pat…she’s really liking them…she’s got some cute little projects up her sleeve so lets think out of the box and do something in the 30s girls…such sweet fabrics.

Hi Everyone,

I’m so excited to tell you about all the NEW fabrics that arrived this week!

Brian, our UPS man was definitely overloaded this week.

We received BOXES of new batiks both from Hoffman and Kaufman. We’ve been busy re-arranging the batiks TRYING to make room for the new colors…they’re simply GORGEOUS!!!

Along with the batiks he brought us the latest Boy Scout fabrics –

badges and all! In that same shipment came Girl Scout fabrics!

We even have fabric with Girl Scout COOKIES!

I’m sure you’ve all had their cookies delivered by now…

Why not make a cute little table topper to serve them on?

Remember when many of us were growing up with the

Flower Child and the Peace signs? They’re on fabric now!

I want to send a HUGE thank you to all of you that participated in this past weekend’s Central New York Shop Hop. It was a WONDERFUL success. Over 175 quilters FINISHED the hop – which is a RECORD! This hop is particularly long and we are sooo VERY proud of ALL of you that took part. It was great fun listening to your stories about our various movie themes and watching you pick out that special fabric to finish a project you are working on or like so many of us, add to our ever growing stash…don’t you love it?

Thank you to all of you for participation.

We awarded one Grand Prize, Ten Gift Baskets to those that finished all ten and

16 more gifts to those that finished 5 or more!

Just a few little tidbits to share with you…as always Ivy has new fabrics arriving daily – MODA’s “Evening Mist” and “Essence” line arrived this week. “Evening Mist” is just plain pretty and soft … cozy is another nice word. “Essence” is done in the fall colors with charm packs, layer cakes AND patterns to help you create a new quilt. New novelties arrived – just perfect for those I Spy quilts…I don’t know how they keep coming up with new novelties but they do and we have them! LOTS of sheep and cows, food and fruit GALORE! We still have a nice selection of holiday fabrics but they’re going fast…if you’ve started planning those holiday gifts or tablerunners stop in the shop today to design your next holiday project.

While you’re in the shop check our samples in the classroom for upcoming classes. We have some fun projects that would be beautiful gifts – flannel quilt, tree skirt, not to mention Pat has been busy making up all sorts of kits!
